About Eddie

Eduardo (“Eddie”) Fernández applies his business knowledge in his role as the Clerk of Courts, just as he did in his practice in corporate and governmental law. Before being appointed as the Clerk, Eddie was attorney in Shutts & Bowen’s Orlando office, where he worked on major transactions for national and international corporations and for local governments and agencies.

Eddie earned degrees in economics and accounting before attending law school. While a law student, he was a board member of the Journal of Law & Public Policy and an executive board member for the Florida Journal of International Law.  He also received a Book Award in Legal Research & Writing and an award for best Note. He was selected by his law school class to speak at graduation as their class representative. While in business school, Mr. Fernández served as vice president of his graduating class and completed two national accounting and finance consulting practicums.  Mr. Fernández also earned his A.B. from Rollins College, where he graduated in the top 1% of his class.

Eddie authored “La Isla del Escape: America’s Escape from Corporate Taxes and Puerto Rico’s Taxed Future.” The article describes corporate tax planning techniques in United States territories after the phase out of IRC § 936, and was published in issue 19.1 of the Florida Journal of International Law.

Dedicated to his community, Eddie regularly volunteers for political and nonprofit organizations.  He is also an active member of local and state bar associations.
